How do you sign a PDF without printing?
If you want to skip printing, signing, and scanning a document, you can do it all using the HelloSign eSignature app.
Upload your document, sign it, and send it to the intended recipient. You also have the option to send your PDF out with a signature request if you need someone else (or several people!) to sign the document.
How should you send your eSigned PDF?
There are several ways to send an eSigned PDF. You have the following options when you use HelloSign:
- Send it directly from the eSignature app
- Download the document and attach it to an email
- Fax it using our other service, HelloFax
How much does it cost to use HelloSign?
HelloSign is an eSignature app where you can sign up to 3 documents per month for free. If you need more documents to be signed or are looking for more features (like templates), a Pro account or higher may be more suitable for you. Check out our pricing page for the features per plan.
Is this legal?
The short answer is, “Yes, it is.” eSignatures are backed by the ESIGN Act of 2000, which gives eSignatures the same legality as written signatures.
There are certain types of documentation that are not included in the ESIGN Act and must still be signed on paper:
- Adoption and divorce paperwork
- Court orders and notices
- Wills, codicils, and trusts
- Cancellations of utility services (includes power, water, and heat)
- Notices of repossession, foreclosure, eviction, or the right to cure
- Product recalls or material failure
- Documentation that accompanies hazardous materials, pesticides, or other toxic or dangerous materials
Can you use Preview or Word instead of an eSignature service to eSign a PDF?
Using software such as Preview or Word to sign your document is not considered a secure method of eSigning. Even though you can paste an image of your signature from a scanned image to get a similar-looking result to an eSignature, these programs don’t provide the security protections that eSignature services do.
At HelloSign, we have securities built in. Your documents are encrypted using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), which is the same level of encryption used by leading banks and government agencies. We also have an audit trail that’s appended to all signature requests so you have record of your business processes.
